Australia announce squad for upcoming Sri Lanka tour

Australia have announced their squads for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, which features 10 matches across all three formats.

There are no real surprises among the teams, with the successful Ashes team remaining intact. Marcus Harris was fired after a bad summer at home.

Adam Zampa is unavailable for the tour with the imminent birth of his first child, while test captain Pat Cummins will not be taking part in the T20s.

Australia A will also travel overseas for the first time since COVID began, with many quality young players included and vying for a place on the international stage.

“There are several players returning to the respective squads combined with an Australian Tour A parallel to the white ball series,” said national coach George Bailey.

“It’s incredibly exciting to have an Australia A component which gives greater flexibility and opportunity for players to be available and cross paths across all teams. It could be from a Test preparation perspective or a white ball or an opportunity to impress at international level.

“These factors, coupled with what we hope will be greater freedom of movement, allow us to be very specific with our structures while continuing to develop the next generation of players.

“This is the first time a tour of this magnitude has been possible since the Ashes in 2019.”

Bailey said one of the main focuses of the tour will be around the T20s, with an eye on a home World Cup defense later this year.

“These are very much focused on skills and what we consider to be the essentials of the squad for the T20 World Cup at home and looking forward to the ODI World Cup,” he said. .

“We were able to continue to develop our depth with superb clean ball performances in Pakistan thanks to a superb Test series.

“As managers, this has been one of the most rewarding parts amid the challenges of recent years.”
