Emirates, Etihad, Atlantis and Armani among the winners
The United Arab Emirates have won 63 titles at the 2021 World Travel Awards.
Unveiled Thursday, the 28th annual awards follow a year-long search for the world’s top travel, tourism and hospitality brands. Votes for the awards are cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee receiving the most votes in a category designated as the winner.
Dubai tops the UAE rankings, scoring several victories, including the world’s leading business travel destination and the world’s leading airport.
The city’s Mina Rashid won the world’s first cruise port and Nakheel’s Palm Jumeirah won the title of the world’s first tourism development project.
Aquaventure at Atlantis, The Palm was named the world’s first water park, and the Dubai Mall is the world’s first shopping mall. With a plethora of luxury hotels on offer, the emirate’s five-star stays have also won several accolades, including the Armani Hotel Dubai pushing back tough ground to become the world’s best hotel.
In the newcomer categories, The St. Regis Dubai, The Palm won the title of the world’s best new hotel and Raffles The Palm Dubai, the first Raffles resort in the Middle East, won the title of the world’s best new resort. .
For family travel, JA The Resort at Jebel Ali is the world’s best luxury family resort, and Sofitel Dubai The Palm is the world’s best themed resort. Dubai’s sail-shaped Burj Al Arab is still winning awards 22 years after opening – being named the world’s best luxury hotel for all suites 2021.
Victories for Abu Dhabi, Ajman and Sharjah
Abu Dhabi was another big winner of this year’s World Travel Awards. The emirate is now officially the number one sports tourism destination in the world in 2021. Island life in the capital is also a winner with Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort winning the Leading Luxury Resort & Villas and the stunning Zaya Nurai Island retreat winning the title of Leading Luxury Villa Resort. Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi has been honored as a premier sustainable tourism destination.
Elsewhere in the Emirates, Ajman’s Oberoi Beach Resort is the world’s premier beach villa resort, while Sharjah’s Mysk Kingfisher Retreat carries the crown of the world’s best natural retreat.
The UAE airlines, consistently ranked among the best in the world, have won multiple awards at this year’s awards. The biggest victory was for Emirates, which was named the world’s largest airline in 2021. The Dubai airline also led the rankings for first class flights.
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has won the title of best airline for business class, and the airline also has the world’s first first class lounge at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The Maldives are the world’s number one destination

For deep blue adventures, Amanpulo in the Philippines has been named the world’s best dive resort, while Vietnam’s InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is the world’s first eco-resort.
The World’s Responsible Tourism Award 2021 has been awarded to Dark Sky Alqueva in Portugal, the first Michelin-starred tourist destination in the world.
