MTA TrainTime app consolidates LIRR, Metro-North ticket purchasing and trip planning
NEW YORK (PIX11) – TrainTime, a newly revamped app launched by the MTA, offers mobile ticket purchasing, trip planning and real-time train locations for the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad, all in the same app.
Rail customers previously had to use two apps to plan their trips – TrainTime to plan their trip and MTA eTix to buy tickets. The new TrainTime app replaces the MTA eTix app and provides all the functionality of the previously separate TrainTime apps for Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad.
“For years, the number one customer request has been to include a mobile ticketing option in TrainTime. We have met that request, while providing great functionality,” said Catherine Rinaldi, President of Metro-North and Acting President of LIRR “Everything from seat availability tracking, reliable train tracking and in-app support is at the fingertips of passengers.”
TrainTime users can sign in using their Apple ID, Google Account, or text message and buy tickets with Apple Pay. Rail customers who previously purchased tickets in the MTA eTix app can access tickets in the new TrainTime app using their existing account information.
“There are no passwords to remember, no card information to enter, and if a passenger needs help, they can get help within the app. Consolidation also gives us flexibility for cross-traffic routes once Grand Central Madison opens,” said Will Fisher, MTA Special Projects Manager.
Nearly 50,000 people have already downloaded the app within the first 15 hours of its launch, according to the MTA.
