Northern Rail will sell £1 train tickets on flash sale for September and October 2022 journeys

Northern will put over a million train tickets on sale for £1 today.

The train operator’s flash sale will start at 10am. Advantage tickets for travel between Tuesday September 6 and Thursday October 20 will go on sale, although the cheapest fares may not always be available for popular routes.

Northern says the sale is a chance for passengers to take advantage of cheaper breaks after the summer holidays. Its network includes Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, York, Lincoln and the Lake District, as well as the Tyne Valley Line in the North East and Cumbria. The sales travel period begins next week and ends just before the October mid-season holiday.

Bookings for the £1 fare can be made online or via the Northern app while supplies last. These £1 tickets are valid for travel between Tuesday 6 September and Thursday 20 October 2022.

Mark Powles, Customer and Commercial Director at Northern, said: “Whether it’s a weekend in historic Chester, a night out in Newcastle, a day by the sea in Scarborough or a walking holiday in the Lake District, these fares will get you where you want to go for less. Tickets are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, those wishing to take advantage of these great £1 fares should book early to avoid disappointment. When they left, they disappeared.”

About 5-10% of seats in the North will have tickets up for grabs during the flash sale. As things stand, no railway strike is currently scheduled for September, but Aslef announced on August 25 that conductors working for Northern had voted in favor of a strike, which could take place in September . The RMT union has also warned that further strikes are likely.
