Outage: Pilot program offers airport shuttle service to resort areas in Maui

PC: Polynesian Adventure Tours

Visitors to Maui will be able to use a new shuttle service from Kahului Airport to West Maui and Wailea starting this weekend. This will be another ground transportation option for travelers to consider when visiting Valley Island and comes as Maui continues to experience a shortage of rental cars.

The new “Maui ALOHA Shuttle” is the result of collaborative inter-agency meetings organized by the Hawai’i Tourism Authority and the Hawai’i Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau and Polynesian Adventure Tours.

This effort is part of HTA’s Maui Nui Destination Management Action Plan, released in March and created by residents of Maui County. Action F in the Maui section calls on HTA to develop and promote initiatives to improve the ground transportation and travel experience.

A Polynesian Adventure Tours coach will depart Kahului Airport daily at 11:30 am, 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm to drop passengers off in West Maui at the Royal Lahaina Resort, Kāʻanapali Maui at the Eldorado by Outrigger, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, Kā’anapali Beach Hotel, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa; Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club – Molokaʻi, Maui & Lānaʻi Tower; Kā’anapali Ali’i and The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kā’anapali.

Another Polynesian Adventure Tours coach will depart Kahului Airport daily at 11:15 am, 1:15 pm and 3:15 pm to drop passengers off in South Maui at the Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott, Maui; Residence Inn Wailea, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Grand Wailea Maui, Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, and Fairmont Kea Lani.

The Maui ALOHA Shuttle service will begin on Saturday July 3 and run through July 17 as a pilot program funded by MVCB. It could be extended until the end of the summer. It will cost passengers to West Maui $ 50 one way for adults, $ 35 for children 4 to 12, and free for children 3 and under. It will cost passengers to Wailea $ 35 one-way for adults, $ 20 for children 4 to 12, and free for children 3 and under.

Visitors who wish to take the shuttle can purchase their ticket at the airport counter located in the baggage claim area. Once they have purchased a ticket, they will be directed to booth # 4 in the group arrivals loading area.

This shuttle service will return to Kahului Airport. Visitors are encouraged to make arrangements for their return trip to the airport through their hotel concierge or online at www.polyad.com.

HTA encourages visitors to consider other ground transportation options instead of renting a car in Maui. For a full list of options, click here.
