Renfe offers free ticket changes due to rise in Covid infections
Until January 15, passengers who must self-isolate will be able to exchange their travel date for free
Spain’s national rail operator Renfe will allow free exchange of train tickets given the current health situation and rising Covid infections forcing people to self-isolate.
Passengers who have a ticket to travel between December 29 and January 15, 2022 on the company’s AVE, Larga Distancia, Avant and Media Distancia high-speed train services and who are unable to travel for health reasons, can change their travel date, at no charge, Renfe said in a statement.
In addition, Renfe has temporarily extended the expiration of Avant, Abono Tarjeta Plus and Tarjeta Plus 10 multi-trip tickets until June 30, 2022.
This is not the first time that Renfe has offered the cancellation or exchange of free train tickets during the Covid-19 crisis. While mobility restrictions were in place, the company reimbursed passengers a total of 97.5 million euros and canceled some 2,566,932 tickets during the state of alarm.
