STATEN ISLAND, NY – It’s time to get ready for thrilling rides and experiences, as Six Flags Great Adventure reopens Saturday for the 2022 season.

This year will feature beautification and modernization efforts throughout the theme park and Wild Safari.

These include: increased capacity and streamlined operations in rides, catering and admissions; new theme and reintroduction of several popular rides for daredevils and junior thrill seekers; aesthetic and comfort improvements in the two parks; the launch of popular food brands and new dining options; a major summer event and more amenities for guests.

Medusa returns

Thrill seekers can expect the return of the snake-haired Gorgon at Frontier Adventures – a seven-loop beast unveiled in 1999 as the world’s first floorless, top-rail roller coaster, Medusa.

The ride was renamed BIZARRO just 10 years later, but will return to its original form with a new color scheme, new logo and a Gold Rush-era story, according to Six Flags.

Junior Thrill Seekers

Six Flags will also complete its two-year revamp of the action-packed section called Jr. Thrillseekers.

Formerly known as Safari Kids, the park’s largest family area will feature eight rides, all perfect for parents to enjoy with their young children, like Lil’ Devil Coaster – Jersey Devil Coaster’s kid-friendly counterpart – and Barnstormer, which returns for 2022. The section will also include shops, restaurants and new shaded seating.

Single passenger lines

Additionally, Six Flags will add single-seat lines to Jersey Devil Coaster, El Toro, Nitro and Medusa. These lines shorten waiting times by filling every available seat.

New Flash Pass Technology

And to enhance the customer experience through increased line speed and efficiency, Six Flags will upgrade its Q-bot THE FLASH Pass to Q SMART mobile technology. Through a mobile app, guests can maximize their time in the park and spend less time waiting in line and more time enjoying the rides, dining, shopping and entertainment.

New Mobile App Features

Another new mobile app feature will allow customers to add their pass to their Google Pay or Apple Wallet to speed up the front door entry experience and reduce waiting time.
