Social media paves the way for SMEs in Oman

Muscat – Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Oman are increasingly using social media to increase their sales. They employ creative and strategic tactics that allow them to build long-term relationships with customers and grow their consumer base through Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

According to several entrepreneurs Muscat Daily spoke to, these platforms have given businesses the opportunity for one-on-one engagement.

“Timing, relevance and creativity are key to connecting with customers and building community in today’s digital age,” said Mudrik Mohammed Mushrif al Hasani, local tour guide and owner of Skipper Tours. (@skipper_tours).

“Through social media, we can easily bridge the gap between where we are today and where we want to be by staying in constant contact with the target audience and getting a fair idea of ​​their tastes. It helps us attract people to our business, increase our reach and popularity,” he added.

Manisha Joshi, another business owner of an event management company, saw Oman’s untapped potential while exploring the sultanate during COVID-19. With that in mind, she launched Creator’s Circle LLC (@creatorscluboman) last year and began hosting outdoor events including camping and hiking. Social media has helped the business grow in a short time.

“Through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp groups, we were able to manage staff, build customer loyalty and get feedback on our events which grew in popularity through mutual friends, friends of friends and hashtags. Now we get bookings for events through social media referrals and handles,” Manisha said.

A closer look at the cosmetics industry in the sultanate helped Maida Montoto realize that
organic products have a niche market. She started organic beauty and personal care
company – Verde & Green (@verde_and_green) – alone, without contacts and using social media as the only marketing tool. This has done “wonders” for his business.

“Being new to Oman, I had no contacts or friends. Social networks, like Instagram, have helped me a lot. I managed to meet environmentally conscious consumers, other suppliers and manufacturers of natural products, which helped me to direct customers to my products and establish my identity in the market”, a- she declared.

Small businesses are all about personalization, a factor that social media helps improve with its reach. Social media has become a playground that brings together all demographics, providing access to a wide range of potential customers who are increasingly in demand by its effective use by SMEs.
