Sterling Out of UFC 267 Bout vs. Yan, expected interim title fight

[UPDATE]

Aljamain Sterling is now out of his UFC 267 rematch against Petr Yan due to injury, as originally reported by MMA Fighting on Saturday. The withdrawal is due to ongoing issues with the neck surgery Sterling underwent this summer.

Yan is expected to stay on the card in an interim bantamweight title fight. The unclassified Sean O’Malley volunteered his services to fight Yan, but it’s not yet clear who will be Sterling’s replacement.

The No.2-ranked TJ Dillashaw would ideally be the best option, but he’s currently recovering from knee surgery. Cory Sandhagen is available, even though he just lost to the aforementioned Dillashaw.

We will keep you posted as soon as Yan’s status / opponent for UFC 267 has been determined.

All the talk and controversy will come to an end when the rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan takes place at UFC 267 in October.

Shortly before UFC Vegas 32 kicked off, Aljamain Sterling posted an announcement regarding the status of his rematch with Petr Yan on horseback. Watch the video below.

“What’s up guys? I know there’s a big fight tonight, obviously. Cory Sandhagen faces off against TJ Dillashaw, who cares? It doesn’t matter because I’m fighting for the belt on October 30 in Abu Dhabi, so make sure you only log in on pay-per-view. It’s gonna be a bang. Obviously if Sandhagen wants it he wins it, he can get it back. I’m going to put him back to sleep And if TJ wins, guess what? He can’t beat a contender since losing to John Dodson without steroids and EPOs.

Sterling would then have a brief workout with a particle stuck in his hair before continuing his exploration of Georgia with Al Iaquinta and tour guide Merab Dvalishvili.

MMA reporter Ariel Helwani would then bring some interesting details about the UFC 267 event. Apparently the event will not be featured pay-per-view in the US and will be available through a combination of ESPN and ESPN +.

That rematch was in the works as Sterling won the UFC 259 title by disqualification in the most controversial end of a title fight in UFC history. Now fans and both fighters will get the closure that was missing from the initial meeting between the two.

With this fight now official, the current lineup for the UFC 267 card for October 30 is as follows:

UFC Lightweight Championship bout: Jan Blachowicz (c) vs. Glover Teixeira

UFC bantamweight championship fight: Aljamain Sterling (c) vs. Petr Yan

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Li Jingliang

Shamil Gamzatov vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk
